18 April 2020
Wednesday 29th April, 20:00, online via Zoom
Economist Kate Raworth claims that the goal of economic activity should be about meeting the core needs of all whilst staying within the means of the planet. Our current economic system fails abjectly in both respects.
Raworth developed the Doughnut Model to depict what goals we should aim at in balancing those two competing demands, and it is being adopted by the Green movement as a way out of our current predicament.
The meeting will not try to explain her model, so attendees should view some introductory videos. Listed below firstly, seven short (1.5 - 2 min) animations, followed by a 17-minute video of Kate herself talking about the model. Or, if you prefer, read a copy of her book. There is also an hour-long presentation given to the Green Party online conference in March 2020, which places the Doughnut Model in a Green context. It is this latter presentation which will form the focus of our discussion.
